There were a few light squalls. The winds were close to 30 degrees off starboard, with waves nearly on our nose.  Overall, except for the hobby horsing, it was an unremarkable passage.

It is claimed Jolly Harbor a port of entry – not so.  Sure, you can clear Customs and Immigration, but you have to take a taxi to English Harbor to purchase the mandatory cruising permit.  We moved the boat instead.  Arriving too late to clear, we will clear first thing in the morning.  Anchoring also proved challenging.  It is the final day of race week…the harbors are packed!

English Harbor reminds me of Williamsburg.  Founded in the 1700’s to service British ships, it has remained a functioning boatyard since inception.  The restored buildings still provide yachting services proving historic restoration can easily meld with today’s service requirements.

A dinghy ride to English Harbor Inn gave us the opportunity to walk the hill up to the restaurant.  What a hike, but what a view!  In the evening, we took a taxi to Shirley Heights.  Reputed to be quite the place for weekend gatherings of locals, we were disappointed to discover it was no more than a tourist magnet….few locals attended and the food was less than adequate for the cost.  Regardless, the setting provided a spectacular view of the harbor and the Old English Boatyard at sunset.

The shot day is typical for me.  The strapping for the boom has disintegrated, but Steve could not resolve much regarding the repair as the shops closed for Holiday.

A sail loft fixed the strapping. Steve has already installed it, with a spare kept on hand, just to be safe.  Although we had planned to stay awhile longer, we decided to head south, returning to Antigua during the winter.
